WINGS Announces Candace Smallwood, CFRE as New Executive Director

Edmonton, AB – WINGS is pleased to announce that after conducting a fulsome executive search process, Candace Smallwood, CFRE, has been appointed as WINGS’ next Executive Director, beginning May 1, 2025.

With more than two decades of leadership experience in the non-profit sector, Candace brings a deep commitment to trauma-informed care, sustainable community programming, and strategic philanthropy. She previously held senior roles with the Winnifred Stewart Association and most recently served at WINGS as Director of Resources and Development. Her appointment reflects a thoughtful and values-driven leadership transition, bringing continuity and stability to WINGS through someone deeply connected to the community and the families it serves.

“Candace’s passion for creating safe, supportive futures for women and children, coupled with her proven track record in fund development and program innovation, makes her the ideal leader for WINGS as we grow our impact,” said Tami Wetmore Chair of the WINGS Board of Directors. “We are confident her vision and heart will guide WINGS into an exciting new chapter.”

Candace holds a designation as a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), and is a respected voice in Edmonton’s non-profit community. Her work has consistently emphasized equity, long-term support systems, and the importance of community collaboration.

With Candace’s leadership, WINGS will continue growing its family-centered programs and affordable housing supports, while deepening partnerships that connect families to the long-term, wraparound services they need to thrive.

WINGS extends heartfelt gratitude to Kathy Collins, current Executive Director, for her compassionate leadership and unwavering dedication. Kathy has guided the organization with strength and care through times of uncertainty, including the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. We wish her all the very best in her well-earned retirement.
