The role of the Board is to assume the overall stewardship of WINGS by adopting sound governance practices. As steward of the organization, the Board has the responsibility to oversee the conduct of the association, to monitor management, and to endeavour to ensure WINGS activities are consistent with its bylaws, vision, mission, and values.

The Board of Directors is comprised of Executive Members (Officers) and General Members (Directors). It shall consist of not more than 15 members of the Society, elected at the Annual General Meeting by members.

When vacancies arise on the WINGS Board of Directors, we welcome applications from outstanding candidates. As a multidisciplinary and multicultural organization, we place a high value on diversity within the Board. Members with varied backgrounds and expertise are crucial to advancing WINGS' vision, mission, and the development of its strategic direction.

Board members serve a three-year term and are not eligible for re-election after completing two consecutive terms, unless they have taken at least one year off from the Board. Board members are expected to attend approximately 7 meetings per year. All meetings are held in Edmonton and offered hybrid.

A key factor in WINGS' success is public awareness and education. Board members serve as ambassadors, advocates, and promoters of WINGS within the community. Each member is expected to actively support fundraising efforts, which may involve attending events, identifying and recruiting donors, leveraging personal and professional connections, and acknowledging donors for their support. Additionally, board members are tasked with increasing visibility for WINGS, promoting our comprehensive support services, and raising general awareness about domestic violence.
